Stop at the oldest licensed hotel in the Territory at Daly before travelling to Mataranka to enjoy a swim in the thermal pool set in its tropical surroundings. Depart Mataranka heading for Katherine township before travelling out to Katherine Gorge to enjoy the splendour of this spot. Enjoy a sunset cruise on one of Australia’s most majestic waterways

Today head north up the Stuart Highway. Along the way stop off at Ti Tree and visit the local Aboriginal community to view their arts and crafts that they make locally representing the culture of their community together with their dreamtime and surrounding countryside they inhabit (subject to being open). Pass through small settlements to the unique rock formation of the Devil’s Marbles then continue travelling through the outback mining town of Tennant Creek. This afternoon view the memorial to the founder of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the Rev. John Flynn, at Threeways before ending the day at the tiny settlement of Renner Springs. Enjoy a town tour this morning visiting Anzac Hill Lookout, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and School of the Air. Free time in town to enjoy a wander and lunch (own expense). After lunch travel out along Larapinta Drive to visit the beautiful West MacDonnells. The scenery is where Albert Namatjira, the famous Aboriginal painter chose to depict his many works of art. Highlights include: Twin Ghost Gums, the Rock Wallaby Colony in Simpson’s Gap and the Rev. John Flynn Memorial. Overnight: As above

Travel once again through the stands of desert oaks set on the red sand dunes heading for Kings Canyon. On with the walking shoes to climb into the unique and beautiful Kings Canyon. Marvel at the beauty of the Canyon itself, the Lost City and the Garden of Eden. Afterwards travel back through Angus Downs Station before once again travelling along the Lasseter and Stuart Highways to Alice Springs. Overnight: Alice Springs

Rise early this morning to see sunrise over Uluru. Then take one of the many interesting walks around the base of Uluru. Interpretive signs explain the features and their significance to the Anangu (local Aboriginal people). Opportunity to do the full base walk (approx. 9 km) around Uluru. Return to camp for a late lunch. This afternoon travel out to Kata Tjuta. Stop off for photo opportunities of The Olgas then take a walk into Olga Gorge to see the many massive domes of Kata Tjuta. This morning travel further north crossing the border into the Northern Territory through the cattle stations of Victory Downs and Mt. Cavenagh. Continue onto the heart of the outback after a photo stop at the border. Pass through Mt. Ebenezer and Angus Downs Stations with beautiful red sand dunes and the distinctive desert oak trees. Stop off to see the largest salt lakes in the Territory – Lake Amadeus and view Mt. Connor. Catch your first glimpse of Uluru from the Lasseter Highway then set up camp before travelling to Sunset Strip to watch the changing colours of Uluru at Sunset. Overnight: Yulara Campground

Enter the moon like landscape approaching the opal town of Coober Pedy. Settle into your underground bunkhouse (and sleep like the locals tonight) then our local guide boards the coach for a town tour visiting an underground mine and church followed by an opal polishing and cutting demonstration. Later in the afternoon travel out to the Moon Plains and stop off at the Dog (Dingo) Fence then watch the sunset over the picturesque Breakaways. Overnight: Coober Pedy

Enter the scenic wine growing region of the Barossa Valley this morning and head through Nuriootpa and Kapunda to Clare. This afternoon travel through the wheat fields of mid-north South Australia to the foothills of the Flinders Ranges. Travel into Port Augusta where all roads and rail from north east and west intersect. Enter the outback passing through vast sheep station properties heading north up the Stuart Highway. Stop off to visit the rocket range township of Woomera with its historic planes and space rubble. Also visit the site of the now defunct Detention Centre. Overnight: Woomera

Sydney passengers fly from Sydney latest arrival 8.00am and Melbourne passengers join at Southern Cross Station Coach Terminal at 7.30am to start the adventure and exploration of ‘the red heart’ of the island continent. Travel the Western Highway through Ballarat into the Wimmera grain growing region. Skirt the northern edge of The Grampians then pass through Horsham and cross the border into South Australia. At Tailem Bend catch your first glimpse of the Murray River and head for the historic paddle steamer village of Mannum to camp on the river tonight. Overnight: Mannum

Continue north up the Stuart Highway this morning. Time for a swim in Edith Falls before continuing to the mining town of Pine Creek where you leave the highway behind and cross the Mary River as you enter Kakadu National Park. Travel to the township of Jabiru and set up camp for the next two nights. Call into the Bowali Visitor Centre to view the displays depicting the region then travel out to Ubirr Rock to see the Aboriginal Art and the view over the wetlands. Overnight: Jabiru

This morning enjoy a cruise on Yellow Waters Billabong to see abundant wildlife in their natural habitat, followed by a visit to the Warradjin Cultural Centre. Next stop is a walk to Nourlangie Rock to view the famous x-ray style of Aboriginal rock art before returning to camp. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon by the pool or maybe an optional flight over Kakadu and Arnhem Land (own expense). Overnight: As above

Leave this pristine wilderness area behind today as you travel along the Arnhem Highway crossing the Adelaide River and passing through the Marrakai Plains to Darwin. An orientation tour of the city before free time and a farewell dinner (own expense) overlooking sunset on the bay. Late evening transfer to the airport to board your flight home (airfare not included).
